Assam reported the highest single day spike of COVID-19 positive cases with the detection of 613 new cases on June 30, of which 380 are from Guwahati.

State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed about the new cases through Twitter late in the night on June 30.

With the latest cases, the overall COVID-19 tally in the state has crossed 8000, to reach 8407.

Guwahati, which has been placed under total lockdown since June 29 for 14 days to check spread of COVID-19, accounted for 380 cases.

The state had so far reported more than 300 new daily cases only twice.

Meanwhile, 314 COVID-19 patients were discharged from different hospitals during the day, which took the recovered tally to 5647.

The death toll also rose by one to reach 12 as a person who was brought dead to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital in Guwahati on June 22, tested positive for the virus.
