Assam on March 31 reported the first positive COVID-19 case when a 52-year-old person was tested positive for the virus at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Twitter mentioned that this is the first case in Assam. “A 52-year-old person has been found positive for #Coronavirua and is Assam’s first #Covid19 patient. He is undergoing treatment at Silchar Medical College. His condition is stable (sic),” he tweeted.

It was not immediately known whether the patient’s first test came out positive or the confirmatory test was positive as well although media reports said that the confirmatory test was conducted at National Institute of Virology, Pune and that also came positive.

Earlier, a 4-year-old girl from Jorhat reported coronavirus positive but her confirmatory test came out negative.

This is a developing story…will be updated.
