Assam has reported two cases of Omicron variant of COVID-19.

Health minister Keshab Mahanta on January 5 said that Assam has so far reported two cases of Omicron variant.

“A 13-year-old boy hailing from Kamrup Metro district was tested positive for Omicron variant on January 4 and another 35-year-old returnee from Dubai tested positive for Omicron variant. The 13-year-old boy returned from Meghalaya’s capital city Shillong and second person is hailing from Hojai district,” Keshab Mahanta said.

However, both persons were tested negative.

Assam on January 5 had reported 591 COVID-19 positive cases and four deaths.

The positivity rate is 1.72 per cent and out of total detection, 279 positive cases were detected alone in Kamrup Metro district.
