A jawan of Assam Rifles was killed and another injured in an ambush by militants in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh on October 4, a police official said.

The incident took place around 9 am near Tengmo village under Jairampur sub-division when a water tanker of Assam Rifles was returning to its camp after fetching water, Changlang SP Mihin Gambo said.

A search operation is underway for the attackers, the police official added.

The martyred jawan has been identified as Birender Singh Yadav. Havildar Narendra Dev Bhatt, who was injured, has been shifted to Military Hospital, Dinjan in Assam.

A case was registered at Jairampur police station.

No group has taken the responsibility of the ambush so far.
