The Assam government has spent Rs 2.37 crore till now on having Bollywood superstar Priyanka Chopra onboard as the brand ambassador of Assam Tourism. The amount was spent in Priyanka and her team’s travel to Guwahati and other expenses and doesn’t include the Quantico star’s remuneration as ‘it is yet to be decided’.

In a written reply to a question by AIUDF MLA Mamun Imdadul Hoque Choudhury, Assam tourism minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that an agreement has been signed for two years according to which the celebrity would promote the Assam Tourism worldwide.

The state government has paid Rs 1.61 crore to Priyanka’s company Purple Pebble Entertainment for signing the agreement for the tourism campaign.

The Bollywood superstar visited Guwahati on December 24 to address a tour operators’ conclave, where she was formally declared as the brand ambassador of Assam.

The government paid nearly Rs 11.91 lakh for airfare and other expenses for the brand ambassador and a similar amount for her delegates, whereas Rs 6.48 lakh was paid as airfare for the Guwahati visit of Chopra’s team.

For accommodation and hospitality, the government spent Rs 8.10 lakh.

The minister further informed that the tendering process related to Priyanka Chopra’s campaign would be finalised by May 15 next.

“Till now, only one advertisement has been released with her as brand ambassador of Assam Tourism in the in-flight magazines and she promoted the Namami Brahmaputra event through social media. The process of making TV commercial with her is on,” the minister said.

The News Mill earlier reported that Priyanka Chopra was set to shoot for the video commercials in June.
