The Assam government has targeted to administer the second dose of COVID-19 vaccine to all 2.20 crore eligible persons aged above 18 years by February 15.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on January 19 said that there are 2.20 crore eligible beneficiaries aged above 18 years in the state and 1.72 crore people have received both doses of vaccine.
“We want to complete the second dose of vaccination in Assam by February 15. Out of 2.20 crore people, 1.72 crore people have already received both doses of COVID-19 vaccine. We will try to administer second dose vaccine to the rest 50 lakh people by February 15,” Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
Sharma said that the current COVID-19 situation in the state was discussed in the cabinet meeting held at Haflong in Dima Hasao district on January 19.
“The number of COVID-19 cases has been increasing in the state, but only 12 per cent patients are now in the hospitals, so we don’t want to impose new restrictions or issue new SOP. When availability of hospital beds will decrease, then we have to impose restrictions,” Sarma said.
He also said that, from now the people suffering from the viral infection and under home quarantine will have to join the job on eighth day, but it will be different when patients are in hospital.
Assam on January 19 reported 8,339 new COVID-19 positive cases with 12.89 per cent positivity rate.
