Assamese film ‘God On The Balcony’ at Shanghai International Film Festival

Acclaimed director Biswajeet Bora’s Assamese film ‘God On The Balcony’ is winning accolades all over the globe despite the restrictions imposed by the COVID situation.

Bora’s film has added another feather with its selection at the prestigious and one of the world’s most recognized festivals – 24th Shanghai International Film Festival 2021 in the Panorama Section along with eight Indian films, including south film ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’ and South superstar Suriya’s ‘Soorarai Pottru’.

‘God On The Balcony’ has also been selected officially to the 21st New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF), one of the renowned film festivals of the world, which will be held during June 4-15 virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Shanghai International Film Festival will be held from June 11-20 this year. With the normalization of epidemic prevention and control, SIFF will implement key instructions on promoting epidemic prevention and control from Shanghai and the state, and perform relevant requirements.

‘God On The Balcony’: Created a name of its own

Biswajeet Bora’s ‘God On The Balcony’ has earned a name of its own in many other international film festivals such as 25th International Film Festival of Kerala, 24th Kolkata International Film Festival, 19th Pune International Film Festival, 20th Imagine India International Film Festival, Madrid & 19th Dhaka International film festival.

In the coming months, ‘God On The Balcony’ is set to be shown at a few more international festivals. Over the last year, it has been screened at the Kolkata International Film Festival – where Biswajeet Bora won the Best Director Award in the Indian Language Films category.

The film is produced by Noorul Sultan under Maina productions. ‘God On The Balcony’ is inspired from the real-life story of poverty-stricken Dana Majhi from Odisha, who was forced to carry the body of his wife on his shoulders for nearly ten kilometers because the government did not care. The film stars Harish Khanna, Pranami Bora , Porinandhi Jima Sultana in lead and currently set for release in October 2021.
