Assamese short film ‘Obosheshot’ (At Last…) has travelled across the world after winning accolades at Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival earlier this year in New Delhi. The film, which deals with the mother-daughter relationship, is directed by Arindam Barooah.

The film was recently screened in Nigeria and Romania.

“I’m still learning the whole process of filmmaking and recognition and appreciation always gives a boost to do something better and also to do something fruitful for the society,” said Barooah.

The film is based on Bhabendra Nath Saikia’s short story called ‘Devdoot’. Saikia was one of the best filmmaker and author of the state.

“The film is a fictional drama that explores the subject of essence of mother’s sacrifice and love towards her children,” said Barooah.

This story is about Numoli, a young girl who belongs to a village crippled by superstitions. In the midst of this, is the mother whose love and sacrifice for her child acts as a barrier against the tribulations of the world and her strives to give her child a voice, the use of which she has forfeited due to unfortunate circumstances.

It has been selected for various film festivals in and outside India.

The film was selected as one of the best four films at Lake City Film Festival in Nigeria earlier this month.

It will also be screened at the Kolkata Shorts International Films festival which starts from July 23.

Besides, the film managed to impress jury and received accolades and official selections in various film festivals like ‘Honourable Jury Mention Award at the prestigious 7th Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival, Special Festival Mention at 6th Bangalore Shorts Film Festival and Outstanding Achievement Award at Calcutta International Cult Film Festival and have been officially selected for screenings at other film festivals like the 12th Cyprus International Film Festival, Pafos, Cyprus, FICOCC – Five Continents International Film Festival- 2017,  Venezuela , Barcelona Planet Film Festival, Spain, Short to the Point – International Short Film Festival 2017, Bucharest, Romania, 6th Kolkata Shorts International Film Festival-2017 and Meraki International Short Film Festival, Bangalore.

The leads have been played by Dipika Gogoi and Anjjan Dhon Bordoloi. Other supporting casts include Debo Kumar Rajkhowa, Jharna Sharma Devchoudhury, Padma Dolakasharia, Anamika Sensua and Pratim Gogoi among others.

The script has been penned down by Rita Bhuyan Barooah and Bhavna Devchoudhury. Cinematography is done by Thangmaism Nishanta Singha and Bhaskar Jyoti Dutta.

The short film was shot in the vicinity of Duliajaan, Assam like Sasoni and Kachari Pathar.
