Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on April 10 early morning stated that the COVID-19 patient from Hailakandi district of Assam who was earlier critically ill, died at the Silchar Medical College & Hospital.

This is the first death of a patient in Assam due to COVID-19 pandemic.

“With utmost grief and sorrow, I would like to inform that Sri Faijul Haque Barbhyan,(65) Hailakandi District has expired few minutes back in SMCH due to complication of Covid19… deep condolences and prayers for the bereaved family,” the Assam minister tweeted.

Earlier, Sarma had on April 9 late night informed that the condition of the patient was critical.

The patient had a travel history to Saudi Arabia.
