Assam’s Jyotishmita Baruah shines at Femina Miss India 2019 finale
Jyotishmita Baruah from Biswanath Chariali in Assam made it to the Top 6 of the Femina Miss India 2019 beauty pageant at the grand finale held in Mumbai on June 15. Jyotishmita was representing her state as Femina Miss India Assam 2019. She was the only participant from the Northeast states to make it to the Top 6 of the coveted competition this year.
Suman Rao from Rajasthan won the Femina Miss India 2019 title while Shreya Shankar from Bihar was crowned Miss India United Continents 2019 and Shivani Jadhav from Chhattisgarh was crowned Miss Grand India 2019.
An alumnus of B Borooah College in Guwahati, Jyotishmita impressed the audience and the judges with her answer in the Q&A round. Jyotishmita, who was one of the winners of Sunsilk Mega Miss North East 2018, was selected as the state winner of fbb Femina Miss India.
Other participants from the Northeast states also won various sub-contests and sub-titles during the competition. While Jyotishmita also bagged the sub-title of Miss Glamorous Look (East Zonals), Femina Miss India Mizoram 2019, Lalnunthari Rualheng, won two sub-contests and two subtitles each. Lalnunthari Rualheng was among the Top 12 contestants in the grand finale. She won the Miss Congeniality and Miss Fashion Icon sub-contests. She was also the winner of Miss Photogenic (East Zonals) and Miss Talented (East Zonals).
Femina Miss India Nagaland 2019, Marina Kiho, was the winner of Miss Getaway Goddess. Marina’s video on Nagaland was chosen as the most-loved video-introduction of any state this year.
Femina Miss India Sikkim 2019, Sang Doma Tamang won the Miss Active sub-contest while Femina Miss India Tripura 2019, Jayanti Reang, won the sub-title of Miss Congeniality (East Zonals).
In 2016, Priyadarshini Chatterjee from Guwahati, Assam won the Femina Miss India crown. She represented India at the Miss World 2016 pageant. She is the first Northeast Indian to represent India at the Miss World.
