Priyanka Bhuyan of Guwahati has won a bronze medal in the open category at the prestigious Delhi horse show which concluded recently.

She competed under the Hacks category among more than 30 participants.

“Winning a medal on my debut brings a sense of achievement but it also made me realise that I need to put more hard work to strive further,” said Priyanka who is a senior communications officer at the NTPC.

Currently, she is posted in Raipur and she represented the Chhattisgarh team in the event. Altogether her team bagged 18 medals in the Delhi horse show organised at Army Polo Ground Dhaulakuan from April 9 to 17.

“It’s a very technical and difficult sport and needs a lot of patience and hard work. It is also the best form of teamwork where both the rider and horse have to become one to master any event,” Priyanka added.

She took up riding seriously a year back at Brego and Hector under the tutelage of Geeta Dahiya.

Priyanka now hopes to participate in the Regional Leagues in Show Jumping.

Arshia shines in the children category: Another rider from Assam Arshia Goswami who represented APS Meerut emerged as Best Rider in Children 1 (12 to 14 years) category. Arshia won individual silver and a team bronze in Show Jumping Normal, individual silver in Show Jumping Fault & Out, individual bronze and team gold in Dressage.

She is the daughter of Col AK Goswami and Rakhi Goswami of Makum in Assam.
