Soon, the roads in Assam will witness Volvo, Scania and Mercedes AC buses plying on them as the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) has announced a PPP model to run these high class buses.

Announcing this, managing director at ASTC Anand Prakash Tiwari said that these buses will be run on  public–private partnership  (PPP) model and the ASTC won’t spend anything other than running the fleet provided by private partners. “ASTC is taking Volvo, Scania and Mercedes buses on PPP model. ASTC is not going to invest any money for these buses. Responsibility of ASTC will be only to operate these buses effectively. Purchase and maintenance both will be done by private partners,” the ASTC managing director wrote on Facebook.

The first lot of buses may arrive by August end. They will first connect upper Assam, central Assam, north Assam, lower Assam and Barak Valley, Tiwari noted.
