UK records highest daily COVID-related death toll since March

Novel Coronavirus has taken a heavy toll on the frontline workers, especially the police in Assam. Till August 26, at least 14 police personnel have succumbed to the viral infection.

ADGP of Law and Order, GP Singh on August 27 said that 3,492 personnel have tested positive till date in the state. And the good news is that 2,989 have recovered so far.

“Unfortunately, we’ve lost 14 colleagues till date,” Singh tweeted.

Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta and his wife were also tested positive of COVID-19 a few days back.

In India, over 60,000 personnel from state police forces and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have till now tested positive for COVID-19 and over 340 deaths have been reported, as per data collated by the Indian Police Foundation (IPF), a multidisciplinary think-tank based in Delhi.

In terms of the total number of COVID-19 cases among personnel, Maharashtra Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), West Bengal Police, Border Security Force (BSF) and Jharkhand Police have the highest number of cases in the country, according to the data.
