At least four police personnel have tested positive for COVID-19 in Guwahati, while over 140 active containment zones in the city indicated to apprehension of widespread presence of the virus.

Official sources said four personnel of Panbazar police station were detected with COVID-19. Among them was a woman who was a resident of the police quarters at Panbazar.

Several officers of city police were residents of the same quarters and have been placed under quarantine. In Fancy Bazar area of Guwahati, three salespersons of different shops have also been confirmed as COVID-19 positive.

Altogether 73 cases have been detected in Kamrup Metro district.

The number of active containment zone in the city crossed 140 on June 20 itself. Over 170 containment zones have so far been notified in the city, out of which at least 141 are still active.

A special targeted surveillance programme has been launched in the city till June 30, during which 50,000 COVID-19 tests are targeted to be conducted to determine the extent of prevalence of the infection in the city.

The overall COVID-19 tally in the state stands at 5388, out which 3360 have recovered and nine have died so far.
