A 35-year-old auto driver had allegedly raped a 90-year-old woman in Barahaldi village of Kanchanpur in North Tripura. Police on October 31 said that the crime was committed on October 24 and they are still on the lookout of the prime accused.

Superintendent of police (North) Bhanupada Chakraborty said the accused has been on run but police launched investigation soon after registering FIR under section 376 and 448 of IPC. The victim was taken to hospital and now she is alright.

According to report, the incident took place during Durga Puja but it came to light only after the relatives of the victim took her to police station and lodged an FIR against one Anjan Nama of Barahaldi village and his other companion.

Police said the lady became ill after the incident on October 24 and she has been admitted to hospital after due medical test on October 29. The widow alleged, she lives alone in a house and at midnight Anjan and another man stormed her house and raped her.

“They left the place leaving me half-dead. Next morning when I regained senses, informed the neighbour but nobody was daring to stand with me against Anjan, as he is otherwise powerful. One of my relatives hearing my health condition came to me and has taken me to police and hospital,” the victim told police.
