All India United Democratic Front president Badruddin Ajmal lost his cool during a press conference at Mankachar, Assam on December 26 when a journalist questioned him about the party’s plan to join a Mahagathbandhan at the centre.

The Assam MP was replying to questions when a journalist asked him whether his party will align with the BJP or the Congress at the centre. “We are with the Mahagathbandhan in Delhi. We will work with the Delhi’s formula…” Ajmal said. Cross-questioning the MP, ETV Bharat journalist Kabir Mondal asked “does that mean that you will be siding with the BJP or the Congress depending on which party is at the centre.” To this, Ajmal lost his cool and hurled abuses on the journalist.

Ajmal used expletives and got up from his seat. He then threw off the mikes that were before him – of various television channels and digital media – and tried to grab one. Ajmal accused the journalist of targeting him.

The AIUDF chief further threatened the reporter of breaking his head and told him to get out.

Condemning the behaviour of the senior politician, the Digital Media Journalists’ Association of Assam (DiMJAA) took a resolution on December 26 evening to file an FIR against Ajmal. “The executive committee of DiMJAA, in its meeting on December 26 evening, has adopted a resolution to lodge an FIR against AIUDF MP Badruddin Ajmal for threatening and abusing ETV Bharat reporter Kabir Mondal at Mankachar during a press conference on December 26,” an official statement said.
