Rajasthan Royals inspecting Barsapara cricket stadium in Guwahati for IPL matches with Riyan Parag

The Barsapara cricket stadium in Guwahati may finally get a chance to host Indian Premiere League (IPL) matches next season as Rajasthan Royals has shown interest in playing a few of their ‘home’ matches at the venue .

The Jaipur-based IPL side on May 18 inspected the stadium and expressed hope that they could play a few IPL matches at the Assam Cricket Association Stadium in the 2020 season.

Jake Lush McCrum, general manager of cricket operations at Rajasthan Royals, visited the stadium at Barsapara and expressed satisfaction at the facilities for probable IPL matches.

After the inspection, McCrum told reporters that the infrastructure is fantastic and he is satisfied. McCrum however did not commit on choosing the ground for their home matches.

Assam Cricket Association secretary Debajit Saikia said that they are highly hopeful that at least a couple of IPL matches will be hosted in Barsapara stadium.

Assam cricketer Riyan Parag, who played for the Royals at the IPL this season, also accompanied McCrum during the visit.

Barsapara stadium has already hosted Australia in a T20 and West Indies in an ODI besides hosting a three-match T20 series between the women teams of India and England.
