Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on January 16 said that the Batadrava Than at Bordowa in Nagaon district can be transformed into a world-class tourist and cultural centre.

Inspecting the progress of the development and beautification work at the Than during his two-day visit to Nagaon district, CM Sarma spoke to the project implementing agency officials and asked them to expeditiously complete the multi-crore project so that the first phase of the project can be dedicated in 2022 itself.

Union home minister Amit Shah laid the foundation stone of the project on December 25, 2020.

Chief minister Sarma visited Batadrava Than and offered his prayers for the wellbeing of all sections of people of the society. He also took part in inaugurating the reconstructed Kirtan Ghar-Monikut at the Than.

While speaking on the occasion, the Assam chief minister said that as per its commitment, the state government has undertaken the Batadrava Than development and beautification project. As a part of the project, the government will build an administrative building, guest house, approach road within one year with an approximate financial outlay of Rs 19 crore.

The Assam chief minister also visited Srimanta Sankardev Research Institute at Batadrava and took a look at the research materials like manuscripts written on sanchi leaf etc.
