Bhaichung Bhutia

Indian football legend Bhaichung Bhutia is set to become the brand ambassador of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), especially the crusade against use of drugs and prevention of HIV, officials said on December 16.

Tripura royal scion and chairperson of TIPRA, Pradyot Manikya Debbarma on December 16 announced that the former captain of Indian football team, Bhaichung Bhutia, has agreed to be the brand ambassador.

Pradyot Manikya Debbarma said that the main idea of the ADC administration is to encourage sports, fitness and creative works to fight against abuse of drugs and the activities to spread HIV/AIDS.

“Bhaichung Bhutia is a youth icon and his message and involvement in the anti-drug campaign and fight against HIV would yield a positive result,” he said.

“We are worried about the rising cases of drug abuse and HIV positive incidences in Tripura despite a series of actions of the state government. Although socio-economic issues, unemployment and jobless life have been indulging the youths in such activities, we want to tell our youths to opt sports as a career and living legend Bhaichung will take part in the mission,” he added.

Bhaichung Bhutia attended the final match of Tipra Football League (TFL) at ADC headquarter on December 15 and said: “I think it is very important to focus on sports especially for the youth, not just in Tripura but in the entire Northeast region, because of their huge potential and talents. We need to channelize our youths with the right energy and hopefully, Tripura ADC will show a path to other states of the Northeast.”
