BJP candidate Nabam Rebia on June 8 filed nomination for the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Arunachal Pradesh, a senior poll panel official said.

Elections to the lone RS seat will be held on June 19.

The term of office of the incumbent member, Mukut Mithi ends on June 23.

Rebia has submitted his nomination paper before Assembly secretary Kago Habung, who is also the Returning Officer (RO), state Joint Chief Electoral Officer DJ Bhattacharjee said in a statement.

June 9 is the last day for filing nomination, and scrutiny will be held on June 10. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is June 12, he added.

On June 7, BJP announced the name of former Arunachal Speaker Nabam Rebia as its candidate for the election. His name was finalised by party’s Central Election Committee.

BJP is the only party so far which fielded candidate for the RS elections in the state.

In the 60-member Arunachal Assembly, BJP has 41 MLAs, seven from JD(U), four each from Congress and National People’s Party (NPP), three Independents and a member from People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA).
