Bomb found near medical store in Imphal

An explosive device was found in front of a medical store at Uripok in Imphal West district of Manipur on June 10.

Immediately after the bomb was found, the area was cordoned off and bomb experts of Manipur Police rushed in and safely removed the explovise device.

It was not yet known who were responsible for planting the bomb near the pharmacy.

Earlier on June 5, a powerful blast took place near a school in Imphal. Police on June 7 said that they had arrested a person in connection with the bomb blast in the Little Flower School, Imphal.

Superintendent of Police, Imphal West, K Sivakanta told reporters that with the arrest of a “serial bomber” identified as Thounaojam Rishi (46) of Imphal East, police had solved some bomb blast cases in Manipur. He also disclosed that Rishi has been working under the command of “Doubllo”, Bangladesh based “chairman” of National Revolutionary Front of Manipur.

The police also recovered explosives and other materials used in assembling IED from the possession of the arrested cadre identified as Thounaojam Rishi Luwangcha, according to police.

The recovered items were a detonator fitted on a cordtex wire of one foot approximately, 58 PEK sticks weighing around 7.358 kg approximately, three coils of cordtex wire, 397 detonators and two batteries, according to the police.

During spot verification, it was revealed that he was the person behind the recent series of bomb blasts in Imphal area, including the latest blast at Little Flower School. According to the police officer, the man was also behind the bomb blast at a shop in Nagamapal on May 5 and another one at located at Khurai Thoudingjam Leikai on May 6, the SP alleged.
