In a bid to make available high-quality and highspeed internet access in Meghalaya and other Northeast states, BSNL has commissioned additional one 10 Gbps international bandwidth for internet connectivity at Agartala through Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh on April 21.

This will also help in reduction of latency and congestion in internet traffic. This development has come a few months after Union minister for communication and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw’s visit to Northeast during which he reiterated his commitment to improve internet connectivity in the region.

BSNL had earlier commissioned one 10 Gbps international bandwidth at Agartala on November 26 in 2021 for Northeast states.

The availability of high-speed internet access will help in establishment of software parks and high-speed data centres for business purposes in Northeast states.

It will benefit the citizens in accessing various e-services such as e-governance, e-education, e-health, e-commerce and e-banking among others. It will also result in increase of employment and tourism in these states.

USOF is providing BSNL with subsidy/support of 80 per cent for a period of three years for these two 10 Gbps international bandwidth.
