The Kamrup Metro district administration has urged the banks involved in the Aadhaar enrolment process to take special measures to provide Aadhaar cards for women, senior citizens and differently-abled persons.

Aadhaar enrolment will be carried out only in the 42 designated places to be notified by the District Level Aadhaar Implementation Committee (DLAIC).

During a review meeting, deputy commissioner Virendra Mittal urged the banks to take special measure to provide Aadhaar card for women, senior citizens and differently-abled persons. He also asked bankers for the augmentation of the services and cover more people to provide Aadhaar card to the citizens.

Out of 42, 22 centres will be set up at the gaon panchayats and the rest 20 will be set up in several locations in government offices in Guwahati. Besides, 10 banks have also started their work to enrol Aadhaar cards.

Additional DC and nodal officer for Aadhaar card in the district, Gunajit Kashyap, said that the administration has also asked the banks to increase the number of enrolment.

The process for Aadhaar registration would have started from January 1, but an order from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) cancelled the authority of all private agencies which had been empanelled to carry out biometric enrolment.

Kashyap had busted a fraud last month following complaints against a construction company which collected money in the name of Aadhaar card. “We will continue to be vigilant about such activities,” he added.

The meeting reviewed the activities of various banks working in the district and loans disbursed by the banks to the beneficiaries for implementation of various government schemes.

Mittal also reviewed the performance of the banks regarding the sanction of loan schemes like Kishan Credit Card and Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme. The DC emphasised on corporate social responsibilities of the banks. He advised banks to submit their CSR plan within 15 days.
