Congress leader Ripun Bora

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Ripun Bora on April 7 said that he has written to Assam chief electoral officer Nitin Khare, requesting him to provide access of CCTV surveillance of strong rooms to contesting candidates.

Bora also proposed that the outside of the strong rooms should be monitored properly round the clock.

“Considering the fact that several unwanted incidents have already been reported in connection with EVMs in several places during different election phases, it has now become very much essential to ensure protection of the EVMs from rigging in the strong rooms. The 24X7 strong room agents’ surveillance facilities must be there and providing access to the CCTV surveillance will definitely ensure holding of the election in a fair and impartial manner,” Bora said addressing a press conference in Guwahati on April 7.

“We have also requested that outside of the strong rooms should also be properly monitored. All the political parties should be allowed to get CCTV surveillance so that nothing wrong can happen,” the senior Congress leader added.

Bora also thanked the voters of the state and claimed that the grand alliance will form the government.

On the alleged threatening of journalists by junior health minister Pijush Hazarika, Bora urged the police to ensure proper action against him and demanded that Hazarika should be disqualified from his candidature.

Taking a dig at Patharkandi BJP MLA Krishnendu Paul, the APCC president questioned the Election Commission why hasn’t he been arrested yet for carrying EVMs.

“The Election Commission must provide clarification on incidents related to EVM malfunction and recovery in unexpected places,” the state Congress president added.
