Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman with Assam CM in Guwahati

The Centre has approved the construction of a 3km-long 4-lance bridge on Brahmaputra river near Sualkuchi in Kamrup district of Assam.

Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on October 7 said that the Centre has approved the construction at an estimated cost of Rs 3094 crores.

Sitharaman, who was on a visit to Guwahati, added that the bridge will facilitate direct connectivity to the internationally renowned silk town of Sualkuchi and the industrial region of Palasbari and the international airport at Borjhar in Guwahati.

Sitharaman also said that the project will also help in stopping river bank erosion and bring about improving transportation efficiency towards economic development of the state.
