Four minor boys in Tening village under Peren district of Nagaland rescued two leopard cubs after they found them abandoned in a hollowed tree adjacent to paddy fields in their village. The cubs were later handed over to Nagaland Zoological Park in Dimapur.
Peren district administration, led by extra assistant commissioner (EAC) Tumben P Tsanglao and forest range officer Namsibo on August 23 thanked the four minors for rescuing the leopard cubs and their subsequent transfer to Nagaland Zoological Park in Dimapur.
According to reports, the two leopard cubs were found on August 20 by a group of four boys, all of them aged around 11 to 12 years from Tening village. They said that they found the abandoned Leopard cubs in a hollowed tree near the stream adjacent to paddy fields of Tening village, when they went downstream for a bath.
They carefully picked the cubs and brought to the village, after which concerned residents of Tening village informed the EAC for necessary assistance in handing over the cubs to concerned authorities.
Sources said that EAC Tening reported the matter to the officials of Nagaland Zoological Park at Dimapur and the Divisional Forest Officer of Peren, who initiated necessary protocols for immediate transfer of the cubs to Nagaland Zoological Park at Dimapur.
Officials said that the whereabouts of the mother of the cubs is still unknown. The cubs were found at very close vicinity around the paddy fields of Tening village.
