Class 10 and 12 exams will be conducted between August 1 and 15 in Assam, says the state education Ranoj Pegu.

The announcement came after a crucial meeting with all the stakeholders including the influential students’ organisations like All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU).

The High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) exam conducted by the Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) and Higher Secondary exam conducted by Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) were scheduled to be conducted from May but were postponed due to the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

Pegu said a standard operating procedure (SOP) will be in place to conduct the exams.

“The government will soon come up with an SOP in this regard after a final call by the health department. The examination centres are required to strictly adhere to the COVID-19 protocols. The final decision in this regard will be taken in the next seven to 10 days,” said the minister.

He said that the results of the examination will be announced by September 5.

It was also decided that the examinations are likely to be held with a limited number of subjects with a shorter time period.

“We have been informed by the health department that the possibility of the COVID situation getting to normal by July seems to be quite impossible. Hence, it was suggested that holding exams amidst this situation won’t be fruitful. In order to complete the entire examination process by September 5, we will soon come up with the assessment model and the timetable to be announced soon,” Pegu also said.
