Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that he will completely finish drugs menace and crimes in the state during his tenure.

“As long as I will be the chief minister, the police action against drugs mafias, criminals will be continued in Assam. Police Raj will be continued, Military Raj will be continued against criminals,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Talking to the media in Guwahati on January 25 evening, the Assam chief minister said that his government will take stern action against drugs mafias and criminals.

“What the fire is burning, no one can extinguish this fire. Police action against criminals will be continued. I direct the Assam Police that drugs menace, crimes have to be abolished during my five years tenure. Police is not unlawful, police is under the law and police action against drugs mafias and criminals will be continued under CrPC and IPC. Police should be charioteer and friend for the common people, but should be enemy for the criminals,” Sarma said.

Hitting out at the Congress party, the Assam chief minister said that before talking for the drug mafias, Congress should talk for the people who have lost their life due to drugs.

“Drugs mafias have invested lots of money in Assam, so that their business would be run smoothly. This is an organized crime and people have earned money from it. Congress should not be sympathized to those drugs mafias who injured or killed in police firing because if they were living then a generation would be finished. Those who died in police firing, they are eligible to get punishment under the law and if they tried to break the law and attack on police or try to flee from police custody, action will be taken against the under CrPC,” Sarma said.

Following recent police firing incidents in the state, the opposition Congress alleged that, Police Raj is going on in Assam.

“If there will be no police rule, there will be no police in traffic, there will be no police in the police station, then how the governance will run. If Police Raj is going on, then why the Congress leaders are not giving up their PSO, despite my appeal to give up PSO culture, Congress leaders are still enjoying it,” Sarma said.

The Assam chief minister further said that the state government has constituted a one-man commission headed by additional chief secretary Paban Borthakur to probe the police firing incident in Nagaon where a former student leader Kirti Kamal Bora was injured and directed him to submit the report within a week.
