Lok Sabha MP from Kaliabor in Assam, Gaurav Gogoi was appointed as state in-charge of Congress in Tripura and Manipur replacing Luizinho Faleiro.

AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal in a release stated that Gogoi will look after the Congress party affairs of Tripura and Manipur along with his existing responsibility of West Bengal and Andaman and Nicobar Island. However, Faleiro will remain in-charge of other Northeast states.

The replacement of Faleiro is significant after a week of resignation of Tripura royal scion Pradyot Bikram Manikya DebBarma as PCC president following discontent with Faleiro. DebBarma has made serious objection to the functioning of the party and alleged that AICC never understood the sentiment of Northeast and political dynamics of region, which over the years caused a serious harm to the party.

DebBarma mentioned that Falerio and his predecessor CP Joshi hardly made any visit to the state and interacted with the local leaders. Instead, they preferred to remain confined in Delhi and run the politics with the aide and advise of non-Congress people, including an incumbent MLA of BJP.

“The Congress could have done better if there was proper leadership even in 2013 assembly elections but unfortunately, AICC never felt to win the state that hurt the sentiment of the common people that also paved the way for BJP to come in power in last election,” DebBarma had alleged.
