Health authorities in Meghalaya on August 25 said that the containment order of The Shillong Times office building in Shillong will be lifted following no detection of any further COVID-19 cases within the premises.

“All high and low risk contacts of The Shillong Times tested negative. No bar to lift the condition of the containment. We went to see the office and after sanitizing, we are satisfied the containment can be lifted,” Director of Health Services (MI) Aman War told reporters.

“The decision to lift the containment is with the deputy commissioner. However, all the 44 high risk contacts have to remain under quarantine. They cannot come out or go to office from the place where they are quarantined,” he said.

The media house was brought under containment following detection of COVID-19 positive cases among non-journalists, working at the printing press.

Meanwhile, the management and the staff of The Shillong Times is now eagerly awaiting the decision of the district administration of East Khasi Hills district to remove COVID19-related restrictions imposed in the premises of the media organisation thereby facilitates resumption of publication of the popular daily at the earliest.
