Plying of ferry services, country boats or any other means of transport has been suspended to Majuli in Assam due to the Coronavirus outbreak threat.

The district administration of Majuli has prohibited plying of ferries, country boats or any other means of water transport (except emergency services) connecting Majuli with effect from Saturday, March 21.

This has been done to reduce the risk of the Coronavirus outbreak in the district.

A notification also stated that in case of a medical emergency, the patient or family members may contact the district administration or the district disaster management authority.

The notification further stated that boat ambulances will continue to ply during this period.

Any violation in this regard will be prosecuted under the DDMA Act 2008, epidemic Disaster Act, 1887 and other relevant orders and rules including Section 188 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
