Helping Hands NGO, in association with North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC) has been distributing emergency ration to people and students from the Northeast region and the Gorkha community in Delhi amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Till April 7, the NGO has reached out to 4000 needy people in Delhi while they aim to reach out to around 50,000 till the ground situation normalizes.

“Students from the region and the Gorkha communities are among the vulnerable lot as the nationwide lockdown continues. Also, recent instances of victimization means that a lot of them are not able to seek help from food camps and relief centers in their localities. Hence the ration that this initiative has been delivering, has been their only way for sustenance,” said a statement signed by Robin Hibu, President of Helping Hands NGO, who is running a fundraiser through Ketto to help the needy.

The NGO informed that they would like to continue the initiative till the ground situation normalizes.

Helping the needy during the pandemic, many people have come forward to help the NGO raise funds thereby enabling them to continue providing daily essentials to the needy. Till the filing of this report, the Ketto campaign was backed by 39 supporters with Rs 1.09 lakh collected for the people in distress.

The NGO is delivering packets of rice, atta, dal, mustard oil, soap, sanitary pads for girls, sanitizer etc.

“We have delivered to over 4000 people already in all parts of Delhi till April 7 and would like to continue to do so. We have a target of delivering 50,000 packets overall. Hence, we are starting this crowdfunding campaign so that we can generate a sizable corpus, to stock up on the essential rations and support the needy,” the campaign note said.
