COVID-19 death toll in Assam crosses 700

Death toll in Assam due to COVID-19 has increased past 700 with 14 more patients reported to be dead on October 1.

The total death figure, declared by a special board as ‘confirmed COVID-19 death’, in the state now stands at 711.

The overall COVID-19 tally in the state has reached 1,82,396 with detection of 1585 new cases in the last 24 hours late night on October 1.

Over 1.48 lakh tests were conducted in the state on September 30, while more than 1.30 lakh tests were done the day before and over 1.20 lakh tests on September 28. On October 1, around 40,000 tests were done. These include both rapid antigen tests and RT-PCR tests.

The state Health department had set target of over 1 lakh tests per day for three days from September 28 as part of a special awareness drive regarding COVID-19.

The number of recovered COVID-19 patients in the state has crossed 1.47 lakh, while the active caseload is over 34,000.
