Manipur government has released 69 prisoners on parole for three months in view of COVID-19 pandemic.

In compliance of a directive from Supreme Court, 61 prisoners from Sajiwa Jail and five prisoners from Imphal Central Jail, including one convict on parole, have been released on interim bail/parole for three months by the concerned courts of Manipur.

Superintendent at Manipur Central Jail in Sajiwa, S Touthang, said the prisoners were released on the recommendation of a High Power Committee.

The released prisoners were transported to their respective residences by the concerned district police in view of the present lockdown in the state.
