The COVID-19 situation has worsened in Assam with the last 24 hours recording 77 deaths on May 10. As per the report of the health and family welfare department, 5803 positive cases were found and out of these 1481 cases were found in Kamrup Metro district.

So far, there are 37,500 active cases in the state. The positivity rate on May 10 was 8.04 percent.

On May 10, Kamrup Metro, which comprises main city of Guwahati, recorded 30 deaths while nearby Kamrup and Dibrugarh districts recorded 10 deaths each.

Keeping in mind of this critical situation, newly sworn-in Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the government’s focus will be on finding out the measures to tackle the COVID-19 situation in the state.

“I visited GMCH and along with Pr Secy Health, Guwahati Police Commissioner, DC Kamrup and other health officials, discussed strict measures that need to be deployed over next 15 days to contain #COVID19. In view of escalating cases, we need tough measures,” chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has posted on Facebook.
