Assam health minister Keshab Mahanta on June 9 said that the COVID vaccination drive in Assam will be over by August 15, this year.

The vaccination process in Assam will be over by August 15, Mahanta said in Kaziranga on the sidelines of the first Assam Police SPs conference.

The Assam health minister further said that the state will receive sufficient numbers of COVID-19 vaccines by June 21, which would enable the health department to ramp up the vaccination process and complete it by August 15.

According to him, as of June 7, only 27 per cent of the Assam 45+ age group population have received doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Mahanta said that the COVID-19 situation in Assam has improved in the last few days, and said that the state government will come up with a fresh set of SOPs after June 15.

The Assam government recently had extended the COVID-19 restrictions in the state till June 16, which also bans inter-district movement of individuals.

COVID-19 situation in Assam has improved marginally with the daily positivity rate dropping below 3 per cent on June 8.

Assam currently has 49,158 active COVID-19 cases.
