Crime rate in Nagaland’s commercial hub, Dimapur, has gone down considerably, according to the “half-yearly crime data report” released by police on June 7.

While releasing the half-yearly crime data report with effect from January 1 to June 3 of Dimapur, commissioner of police Rothihu Tetseo claimed that the overall law and order situation in Dimapur has been peaceful and under control.

Under the Dimapur Police Action Plan, the police are putting extra enforcement to control extortion and illegal taxation activities, the police officer stated. While “Care For You” has been launched by the Dimapur Traffic Police to prevent accidents, especially on the highways, extra traffic personnel have also been deployed in Dimapur.

Moreover, in compliance with the Government of Nagaland, the home department notification, all check gates including Chumoukedima inter- district / ILP check gate have been closed down except for the inter-state check gates namely, Dillai police check gate, New Field police check gate, and Khatkhati police check gate, the police officer also stated.

Rothihu Tetseo then stated that Dimapur/Chumoukedima/ Niuland registered 50% of the total cases registered across the state i.e. 735 cases.

In regards to theft cases registered, two-wheelers theft cases were the highest of which 40% of cases have been solved while one each case were registered under the POCSO Act and Dacoity Act. The police officer added that 58 cases were registered for extortion. He further added that 93 persons were arrested under the Arms Act.
