Delhi-based BLK Super Speciality Hospital announced a monthly surgical oncology OPD service in Guwahati on March 6 for cancer patients in partnership with Guwahati-based Instacare Clinic.

The facility will provide expert advice and treatment for head and neck cancer, breast cancer, lung and esophagus cancer, urological cancer, robotic surgery and minimal access surgery for cancer.

The OPD service was inaugurated by oncology surgeons from the BLK Cancer Centre of BLK Super Speciality Hospital, Dr Surender Dabas, HOD of surgical oncology and robotic surgery and Dr Bikram Kumar Deka, consultant of surgical oncology and robotic surgery who will also be visiting the OPD once a month for consultation.

“The hospital decided to launch the services as the Northeast region is seeing an alarming rise in incidence of cancer. The National Cancer Registry Programme Report (NCRP), 2020, recorded the highest incidence of cancers in Northeast India between 2012 and 2016,” the BLK Super Speciality Hospital representatives said.

OPDs will be conducted at Instacare Clinic, located at Kumarpara in Guwahati, and the services will be operational on specific days of every month to allow ease of access for patients for consultations. With the launch of the OPD services, patients across age brackets, socio-economic backgrounds, etc. can avail consultation and treatment in Guwahati and nearby regions, without the inconvenience of travelling to a different city.

At the official launch, Dr Surender Dabas said: “With the launch of BLK Super Speciality Hospital OPD services in Guwahati, the unit will be able to serve to more patients in the city and nearby region. We have already established ourselves as a tertiary care facility by virtue of having state of the art technology and a blend of the finest medical and surgical skills but now our focus is to cater to the people in other cities so that the quality of life becomes better. With its opening, one can now benefit from the same high-quality medical advice as available to patients in Delhi. All surgeries will be conducted at BLK Super Speciality Hospital while pre and post-operative care will be provided at the OPD along with consultation and medical advice to patients.”

Dr Bikram Kumar Deka said: “At BLK Super Specialty Hospital, our endeavor is to equip the common man with relevant information pertaining to cancer related issues. To combat this lifestyle disease, our OPDs will offer consultation and will encourage people to lead a healthy lifestyle. India is seeing an alarming rise in number of cancer cases and is already being referred to as the cancer capital of the world. Patients beyond the big metros find it difficult to avail world-class cancer care and incur huge costs in long distance travel. We have a vision to extend our tertiary healthcare services in smaller towns and cities across the country. This OPD is going to be a valuable addition to the healthcare infrastructure of Guwahati by providing world-class treatment solutions to cancer patients in the city right at their doorsteps.”
