It was the first Saturday today after it came to light that the Assam government was mulling to make it voluntary for the state government employees to wear traditional attire at work during the first and third Saturdays every month.

As wished, a lot of the state government offices and schools in Assam turned into a colourful visual treat as the employees turned up for work in their traditional attires. For some, it was a tiresome exercise managing the dress!

While the women employees wore ‘mekhela-chadar’, their male counterparts donned ‘dhoti-kurta’, completing the look with a traditional ‘gamocha’ or scarf of indigenous tribe of the state around their neck.
