Assam filmmaker Xahid Khan won an award at the Emirates Short Film Festival (ESFF) in Dubai. Khan’s ‘Mistake’ has won the 2nd best regional film where films from across the globe participated recently.
The 7.43-minute film describes the relationship between parents and their children. The film narrates how Pahi, a young girl who messaged her boyfriend but mistakenly the message goes to her father who never had any hint about her boyfriend, learns from her mistakes.
“Award at the global platform itself means global recognition on the respective field where a person works. The award introduced me to the global arena of films, which can boost my career as a filmmaker. Another perspective I see is when I get an award it means more responsibility to work harder,” Khan said.
The film features senior actors like Jolly Laskar and Prasanta Kumar Das, among others.
The ESFF started in 2013 is a non-profit film festival. More than 500 films participated in the festival.
Xahid Khan’s earlier short film ‘Alert-Condition: Red’ based on the menstruation, also drew attention. It was screened at the International Film Festival for Women, Zimbabwe in 2017.
Narrating his story, the 28-year-old filmmaker from Dhubri in Assam, said that once he dared to reject an offer to work with Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment.
“During my study at Institute for Design of Electrical Measuring Instruments in Mumbai, we had a guest teacher from Red Chillies Entertainment. He liked my graphical short film and straightway offered me a job as an editor. But I dared to say no because I didn’t want to be an editor but a filmmaker. I’m doing my best to live up to my dream,” Khan said.
