Three Assam youths associated with the film industry in Mumbai have come up with an initiative to promote the Northeast region.

Supermodel and actor Dipannita Sharma, writer and cinematographer Ronjoy Borthakur and producer-director Saugat Bhattarjee have set up a platform called North East Film Company (NEFC) which will facilitate Bollywood actors shoot in the Northeast and local films market outside.

“We were brought up in this region and the three of us have been passionate about the Northeast. We want to bring our expertise together and do something. Our idea is to have Northeast as a global appeal, to shoot mainstream cinema, to shoot films that are global, to shoot films that we can release across the globe,” said Dipannita who has appeared in several Bollywood films.

Dipannita who made her Bollywood debut in 2002 with ‘16 December’ besides being a known face in the modeling scenario globally, said that she wants to bring her experience of many years in the industry.

“And also to bring together the artistes and technicians from across India and world and help the artistes and technicians of Northeast to a larger audience. So, we are here together with the North East Film Company,” she added.

Saugat Bhattarjee, another associate of the initiative, said that the state government also has a huge role to play in this regard.

“We work with the state governments and show them the benefits of creating subsidy models like ‘Film Bandhu’ in Uttar Pradesh for projects which are shot in the Northeast,” said Saugat.

He also said that they would work hand in hand with local producers to create enough film and television projects which could create a demand for a local-film city in the Northeast.

Ronjoy Borthakur said that they would come up with a series of works where several Bollywood stars will be featured which will help them to market the products across the country and even abroad.
