Meghalaya police have arrested a woman with illegal drugs worth nearly Rs 5 crore from her possession. The drug smuggler identified as Veineithem Haokip, who was travelling with a juvenile, from Manipur’s Churachandpur district was arrested on August 11 and seized 930 grams of illegal drugs from her possession.

Police have handed over the juvenile to a shelter home. “During an intensive checking on vehicles along the national highway, we seized 80 soap boxes containing illegal drugs from three bags belonging to Haokip,” superintendent of police in-charge East Khasi Hills district, Claudia Lyngwa said.

The seized illegal drugs is worth Rs 4.5 crore in the street market.  Haokip (25), a resident of Teigang village in Manipur was travelling along with a juvenile in a night bus from Manipur to Shillong.

Lyngwa said the arrested woman has been booked under NDPS, Act.
