Team 'Local Utpaat' at Gauhati Press Club on May 21

Dubbed versions of superhit Assamese film ‘Local Utpaat’ may be made available on OTT platforms for a wider reach.

Director Kenny Deori Basumatary said that while the comedy film will be released in select metros on May 27, they are exploring options to dub it in several languages – including Hindi – for OTT release.

“We cannot rule out an OTT release after the theatrical shows are over. Meanwhile the movie is doing very good in the box office. In the first 8 days, it did a business of around Rs 45-50 lakh which is a very encouraging news for the Assamese film industry as a whole. We are thankful to the people of Assam for showering such love and appreciating our work,” he said.

The team decided to release ‘Local Utpaat’ in Delhi, Noida, Mumbai, Kharghar, Bengaluru and Kolkata on May 27 for one week.

Their next step is to now look for ways to take the film to places where there are no theatres. “Assam still has many places without cinema halls. We are looking at ways to take the film to those places so that people there also can enjoy these fun moments,” said director Kenny Basumatary.

Bibhash Sinha, who has some of the best lines in the film, said: “We are overwhelmed with the amount of love the people are showering on us. I’ve been getting lots of calls and messages. Thanks to the people of Assam.”

‘Local Utpaat’ is now running successfully in its second week in a majority of theatres – with several houseful shows on May 22. The film has an extremely high public rating of 97% on bookmyshow.com. Several people have shared that they have already seen it more than once. Audiences have also said that after two years, they have finally had a chance to laugh out loud for two hours continuously.

Speaking about the success of ‘Local Utpaat’, director Kenny Deori Basumatary said: “I am truly grateful to the people of Assam for making our film a hit. We were confident it would do well, but the public response has been more than double our expectations.”

Kenny added that the team will now make ‘Local Kung Fu 3’.
