The Northeast region chapter of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), in association with Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC), organized an e-conclave on Heritage Tourism Assam on June 30.
Speakers at the e-conclave included director, directorate of cultural affairs, Assam, Kishore Thakuria; consultant at Assam Tourism Development Corporation, Partha Pratim Das; senior advisor at World Association of Small & Medium Industry and Global Indian Foundation, SK Dutta; deputy director at directorate of tourism, Assam, Emon Choudhury; cultural development officer at directorate of cultural affairs, Assam, Saurav Paniphukan and chairman at KRC Group of Hotels, Sunil Saraf.
Chair at NER chapter of PHDCCI, Manoj K Das, presented the theme address and highlighted the opportunities of tourism in Assam focusing on sustainable development. Co-chair Satya Deo Goyal gave the concluding remarks and vote of thanks.
The panellists highlighted that in order to promote heritage tourism in Assam with special focus on Majuli, Sivasagar and Tezpur; the state government, state agencies, PSUs, private parties and stakeholders must join hands and promote the rich heritage and culture of the state. There is also a need to formulate a heritage tourism policy for the state.
The e-conclave was moderated by director at PHDCCI Jatinder Singh and deputy resident director, NER, PHDCCI, Bibhuti Dutta. The e-conclave was attended by government officials, tour operators, hoteliers and other stakeholders from the tourism industry.
