With BJP leaving out Hojai constituency in Assam in the list of candidates announced for the 2021 assembly elections on March 5, sitting BJP MLA Shiladitya Dev has turn poetic to express his pain.

During the day, the BJP leadership announced the first list of 70 candidates where Hojai constituency was missing. Late in the evening, Dev took to Facebook to let his followers know his condition.

Jodi Tor Dak Shune Keu Na Ase Tobe Ekla Cholo Re (If no one responds to your call, then go your own way alone),” Dev wrote on his Facebook profile, the famous lines of the Bengali song written by Rabindranath Tagore in 1905.

Shiladitya Dev, one of the most controversial politicians of the state, won from the Hojai constituency in 2016 with more than 54 per cent votes.

The status was shared more than 398 times, 3000 reactions and received more than 1300 comments. If many ridiculed the MLA, others expressed their solidarity.

During the anti-CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) movement, Dev had been very vocal in support of the act. Though Dev faced backlash for his support to the controversial act, many loved him for his support.

Dev has a PG diploma in journalism from Bharatia Vidya Bhawan, New Delhi.
