After a gap of 17 years, the first general body meeting of the Guwahati Press Club was held on February 20, while the election for forming a new executive body of the club was also announced.

Two back-to-back general body meetings of the club, attended by over 250 member-journalists, held at the courtyard of the Press Club adopted several resolutions, including amendments to the constitution.

The current executive body of the Press Club was declared unauthorised by the meeting as the office bearers failed to abide by the provisions of the constitution, including exceeding their term of one calendar year, holding annual general meetings and submit audited accounts.

A five-member committee was formed to oversee the functioning the working of the Press Club till the formation of the new executive, while another five-member panel was named to conduct the election.

A three-member internal panel was also constituted to hold an audit of the accounts of the last executive body.
