As a part of the Brahmaputra Literary Festival 2017, Guwahati-based advertising and event management company, Priya Communication, converted a bus stop in Ganeshguri into a book library.
The bus stop, opposite to the Ganeshguri petrol pump, was converted to an exchange library. With around 3,000 footfalls and more than 400 books exchanged, the bus shelter library installation was a grand success. The bus shelter caught the eyes of many with its signage, MY BOOKSTORE: Bring a book, take a book. The passersby were tempted to pay a visit there and be a part of this mission. The young and the old, people from all genres, were seen reading books in the bus shelter under the starry night of January. The wait for a bus was never so thrilling.
Many noted personalities were also among the people who visited and spent some quality reading time in this rectangular box, which otherwise was just another bus stop in the city. Internationally acclaimed award-winning writer and poet from US, Neil Hall was among the few visitors. He said, “The idea of take one (book) and leave one is a wonderful concept. It captures the audience before waiting to get on to a bus.”
The bus shelter was dismantled on January 30, marking the end of the Brahmaputra Literary Festival.
