Former two-time Assam chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta was admitted at a private hospital in Guwahati on September 4 evening in a serious condition.

Confirming it, sources in the hospital said that the veteran politician was being treated in the ICU.

“Mahanta has been admitted in the evening and a team of doctors are monitoring his health. Apart from that we are not in a position to say anything,” said the source.

The details of his health condition will be shared in the morning, the sources added.

Mahanta, currently an Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) legislator, had been a leader of the Assam Agitation, and had gone to head AGP-led governments in the state for two terms.

He also holds the record of becoming one of the youngest CMs in the country when he became the CM in 1985 for the first time at the age of 33.
