NorthEast United FC’s head coach Gerard Nus is highly hopeful as the Guwahati-based Indian Super League (ISL) side has announced new foreign signings.

French-born Mauritanian defensive midfielder Khassa Camara and Portuguese winger Luís Machado are the latest foreign recruits for the club ahead of the 2020-21 season of the ISL.

“I am really happy about the signings of the two new players. First of all, we have the midfielder Camara. We know he is going to support a lot in the central backs and full backs…in the all-defensive duties. At the same time, we know that with the ball possession he can lead the game,” Nus said in a video message.

After NorthEast United FC’s dismal performance in the last several outings, the John Abraham-owned team will be looking forward to developing their records in the tally.

Speaking on the 28-year-old Portuguese winger Luís Machado, Gerard Nus said that there’s lot of positives about Machado.

“We can say a lot of positive things about this (Luís Machado) Portuguese guy. We know that he is a threat in any position he plays – whether in the left, right or in the top. We expect a lot from these two players. I’m really excited to start working with them,” the Spaniard reckoned.

Camara, the 27-year-old defensive midfielder has 35 appearances for Mauritania and has spent the last 5 seasons in Greece spending a season at GS Ergotelis and then the next 4 at Ao Xanthi. An active international for his country, Camara last featured in national colours at the 2019 edition of the African Cup of Nations. Camara is a versatile player who can also play as a central midfielder or at right-back.

Luís Machado comes from the Portuguese top division where he made his topflight debut with CD Tondela, having helped them earn their first promotion in 82 years the season prior. He then spent 3 seasons at CD Feirense followed by a stint at Moreirense FC. With over 130 appearances in the top Division, Luis brings great calibre and experience to the Highlander’s in attack.

The ISL season starts from November 21 this year in Goa. All the matches will be played in Goa due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
