An expert committee constituted to look into the problems and issues affecting the performances of tea industry in Assam and diminishing role of Tocklai Tea Research Institute submitted its report to the Assam government on December 23.
The eight-member committee, headed by former vice-chancellor of Gauhati University Mridul Hazarika, handed the report to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
At the initiative of the chief minister and in view of concern expressed by various stakeholders on the present status of tea industry in the state and diminishing role of TTRI, the Assam government through State Innovation and Transformation Aayog (SITA) constituted a committee to study various issues and suggest for their revival in April 2019.
The committee, after completing its study following discussion with different stakeholders and visiting various core areas, prepared its report with certain recommendations and handed over the same to the chief minister.
Sonowal thanked the chairman and other members of the committee for carrying out the exhaustive study and preparing report.
